My day did not start out too bad. It was raining again this morning. Rain is a good thing, it really is. The fields need it, the farmers are happy, the ponds have water in them again and my farm is soggy. Rain is good. Mud is bad… muddy dogs, muddy horses, muddy floors… mud is bad.
I got home from work and as soon as I pulled up in the driveway, I noticed the electric fence was down and not a horse in sight. Greeeaaatttt! They have 5 acres and 3 hay bales and they take off for parts unknown.
I grabbed a feed bucket and started rattling grain. How can you lose 2 big white horses? I rounded the chicken coop and saw movement. Yes… a muddy blur peaking around the corner of a house 3 yards away.
Thankfully, the rattle of a feed bucket can be heard for MILES and both horses came sauntering back looking mighty pleased with themselves. They wandered back through my neighbors yards and up onto the driveway.
Apollo, the arabian, had to spook and blow at a rock or two but they both managed to head
for the feed pans.
Once I got the electric fence turned back on (did I mention that I had forgotten to turn it on after moving hay the other day?) both Apollo and Gracie settled in and munched their grain. They must have been eating all the grass in the neighborhood as they didn’t seem too terribly hungry.
Tiny Tim has found a home! Bryan and Jason are going to take him when they get back from their cruise. They are so excited and I am thrilled. He will be treated like a prince!
The chickens and the goats were glad to see it stop raining. Neither likes to be wet and they came running out to get their share of the horses bribe. The chickens have been slacking off… only 5 eggs since Wednesday. I think it’s partially because they don’t go out to eat as much in the rain.
Pretty much a normal day on the farm. Tomorrow, I am going to tackle the back door and see if I can get it fixed so I can shut it. It was broken when I moved in and has gotten progressively worse. Now that it’s cold, I need to have some way to keep the porch warm and dry.
